was seeing some tumblr post about wage stagnation and cost of living increase
you know I was feeling a little bit of “should I be ashamed?” about myself for not sticking with 1 job for more than 2 years (a combination of circumstances, the fields I’ve worked in, mergers, etc) and not having a Career but then I remembered that in the process of my skipping around I have on two occasions doubled my prior salary (not an exaggeration) so like

Actually I’m curious to know more about your modern monster hunter setting in general! What’s it like? What kind of adaptations have people made to coexist alongside the monsters while technology has improved? What does hunting look like now? :0
hi anon! excited to hear someone's interested on my stuff!! ^^
it's not really a monster hunter setting, as in it's not focused on hunting monsters down (although there's certainly people that do). the quick explanation is that this universe is like our modern world but monsters exist, both as animals (Lee) and sentient creatures (Raz, Donovan). so you got vampires, werewolves, unicorns, ghosts, dragons and a very long etcetera of creatures attempting to coexist with humankind. depends on where you ask you'll get different responses about monsters: some think they're a plague, some think they're deserving of respect just as any other human is, some think they're just doing their thing and don't care about them. and of course, each country has its own legislation regarding monsters. regardless, sentient monsters prefer to keep their identities to themselves, just in case. think of mutants in the X-Men universe, that's the kind of vibe i wanna go for with this setting
there's always been some kind of "way" of knowing if someone was a monster or not, usually through some kind of superstitious ritual of sorts. wether they actually worked or not is another whole story. once human society reached its technological boom, the supernatural was approached with the scientific method and monsters started getting properly researched. look no further than Raz, who was approached by a government funded research facility to help humankind learn more about monsters and help them integrate into their society. this has... controversial results. i've yet to decide on any canon events for this universe bc as of now it only exists as a static setting, and i'd like to explore more of the societal aspects of a world with monsters! the task seems titanic and very intimidating to me but i'll get to it one day, i promise
on the more mundane side of worldbuilding, ghostbusters are a real service you can call if your house gets haunted. there's also fauna control but to keep animonsters (came up with that on the spot, does it work?) away from human settlements. think of it like wild animal culling, or invasive species control. things like that exist and have existed in this world for a very long time just like any other jobs. of course, technology has aided both people who want to preserve animonsters as part of the ecosystem and people who want to exhibit their pelts and bones in their living rooms. regular guns have a variable rate of success against monsters overall, but there are certain research centers that are pioneering substances that are specially noxious to them. very little knowledge on this field is public, though
if you want to read some more about the general ambient towards sentient monsters in this setting, check the nexverse tag in reverse to read some of my ‼ VERY EARLY ‼ worldbuilding on the setting (although it's all focused on Raz's storyline, but still. should give you some insight regardless). thanks for the ask, anon!! ^^

Let's Talk: Dragons
Dragons are like the bad boy/jocks of the Imperfect World.
To most other species, especially human, they are perceived as "aggressive" creatures, yet this couldn't be further from the truth. They really take the term "Gentle Giants" to a whole new level. This misconception is related solely to the drastic size difference and more animalistic behaviors of Dragons compared to other species, especially humans.
Dragons are Reptilians
Dragons are scaly, cold-blooded creatures with more traits in common with reptilians than anything else. Even when in their "human" form, Dragons are still cold-blooded and incredibly susceptible to cold temperatures and dramatic temperature changes than other species.
Often found wrestling or engaging in very violent-appearing behaviors to produce warmth. Think of litters of puppies playing. Lots of teeth, growling, tackling, and pinning each other but just massive reptilian creatures with wings that roar and growl and can shake the ground. Also engage in massive dogpiles to conserve warmth and energy. Just picture a mountain of multicolored dragons all curled around each other and using each others' wings as blankets and their tails as pillows. Any buildings designed for their "human" forms have massive windows, very open spaces designed to let in light.
They have nostrils, like lizards and snakes do, but use their forked tongues in similar fashion to smell. Surprisingly poor sense of smell, but make up for it in vision. You cannot hide from a dragon. They will see you. Adapted with heat-seeking "abilities" (basically thermal detection). Depending on where they're from within the dragon realm, they're surprisingly good swimmers. Can hold their breath for long periods of time (big lungs equal big breaths), and have hollow bones, meaning if they wanted they can float just a bit.
Primary diet components are cattle like animals found in their realm, a variety of seafood found on earth as well (crab is peak evolutionary form), unicorn, and sea-vegetation. Yes, they have unicorns in their realm and yes they are prey creatures. And yes, Dragons eat them.
Might be large and powerful, but surprisingly lazy creatures. They're known to not want to make short travels because it simply requires too much effort. This definitely has to do with their cold-blooded nature, as they often want to preserve energy for times where it might be a bit cooler than is comfortable to function.
Dragons: A History
They have a legend/true story that serves as the basis for their "government".
It's the story of the first monarchs. Prior to their ruling, the lands of their world were divided between the Stone fields, the Meadows, the Basalt Pits, and the Northern Forest (forest is a loose term for it, more like the only place that has trees. Think of like massive Californian Redwoods type trees here). There wasn't necessarily any aggression between these places, but they were all closed off from each other, typically due to just basic geography preventing easy access to other areas (such as Northern Forest dragons are a far distance from each other in dragon terms so they had little to no contact with each other prior to the first monarchs).
The first King, a Meadows dragon had spent a long time travelling between the different regions and had learned so many things. He knew it'd benefit their kind to be united in a way that allowed for better trade/communication. Besides, he had this burning love for a dragon from the Basalt Pits. So he worked on getting all the leaders/elders/officials of each region together and they formed a monarchy. He, surprisingly, didn't want to be the one to rule. He didn't like the idea of being the one in charge, but the others reminded him he was the most versed in all the regions out of them. They even called him "Son of All Dragons" because he had lost many practices/traits that are iconic to a Meadows dragon.
He was able to wed the Basalt Pits dragon he had fallen in love with. The Basalt Pits dragons are the most hostile out of all, they're still not aggressive nor dangerous to other dragons, but they, to this day, still prefer to keep to themselves.
Alpharion thus became the first king, an absolutely massive multi-colored dragon that earned respect from all the regions. His beloved wife, Sapphirona, was an equally large dragon, nearly his size. Their massive size is the reason the monarch must be the biggest, rather than there being an actual lineage to the throne: the "Dragon of all Dragons" so to speak gets to rule.
They had a buttload of children. Not uncommon for dragons, actually. Dragons are born from eggs, often in clutches of 3-5, and remain as dragons until roughly 18-20 years of age. Dragons can live for long ass times, so this is like, comparatively to humans, only like 18-20 weeks of development. And they get big fast.
Their first clutch was 4: A gold dragon boy named Alverick, a bronze girl named Mayatina, a silver boy named Tobias, and another boy of grey coloring named Timotep. These four grew up to be the largest of all their siblings, and Alverick even grew to be larger than his father.
Their second clutch was 3: a dragon girl with cocoa brown coloring named Caris, a black dragon boy named Wilmack, and another girl with the most brilliant white scales named Yundara. Yundara ended up being the biggest of this clutch, roughly the same size as many of her older siblings.
Their third clutch was 4: a girl of pinkish coloring (like a sunset almost) named Roschlin, a boy of iridescent scales named Indizi, a gorgeous forest green girl named Emteria, and a dark yellow boy named Flamiatus.
But what Sapphirona and Alpharion hadn't expected was a single egg to be laid nearly a month later. It wasn't uncommon for some eggs to be delayed, or premature, but these types of eggs typically held still-born offspring. This egg, however, hatched rather quickly, and out popped the most beautiful little red dragon Sapphirona and Alpharion had ever seen. His headdress was gorgeous, matching his mother's extremely complex crown of spines, horns, and a matching pair of massive sea-shell like ears.
HIs name? Atendarajo, meaning "Precious".
Alverick and his siblings quickly grew very jealous of their mother's favoritism, especially considering how ridiculously small this dragon was. They tried to find ways to get their mother's affection to waver, yet it never did.
So Alverick took matters into his own hands. With the help of the Royal Guard, he captured his mother and baby brother. She was chained in her dragon form by her own son, as he was the only dragon present bigger than her.
She watched in horror as they killed her precious baby.
To this day, in the dungeons of the castle, built by Alpharion, lies a massive chamber known as "Sapphirona's Death". Inside the chamber is a pool filled with water. The water has remained the same the entire time, and many believe the water to be the very tears Sapphirona shed for both her sons; the eldest so overwhelmed with jealous it had driven him mad, and her precious, no more than a babe and as innocent as can be.
Alpharion casted himself and Alverick out, and there are rumors that on a distant island, they still fight to this day. Sapphirona, unfortunately, passed from what they call "heartbreak" not long after the incident.
But the dragons know something she never had a chance to learn: the dragon murdered that night wasn't her own. He has yet to be found ;)
This is part of why dragons, to this day, still discriminate against small dragons: the lasting jealous of Alverick's surviving siblings permeated the political realm, and has yet to be reversed.
Regions of Dragons
As I mentioned before, there are different regions within the dragons' realm.
The Stone fields: a large portion of exposed stone on the main island. These dragons are typically shorter, yet longer, with slimmer shapes. They're designed for mining the plethora of raw materials found within the stone base of the mainland. They had specialized claws, no horns/headdresses, and nose flaps/second eyelids to protect from dirt/dust. Very well-adapted to seeing in the dark, especially opposed to Meadow dragons. The social butterflies of the dragon realm. They share most of what they find, as they prefer the drab stone and basic rocks found, so they trade many of the precious gems/metals.
The Meadows: Typically the biggest of the dragons, with minimal extra qualities like spines/headdresses. Probably what you think of when you think dragon, just without the flair, in terms of shape. Proportional limbs and good, thick bois all around. Probably the laziest of the dragons, as well. Their biggest trade item is the cattle creatures they shepherd, as well as unicorn. The most common of dragons/have the largest population. Follow in Alpharion's footsteps and travel the most, making them desirable in official trade businesses.
The Northern Forest: These are the dragons that have longer hind legs than front ones. Devon is a Northern Forest dragon. The shorter front limbs are designed to assist them in foraging in the trees, which can often be taller than the average Northern Forest dragon (Devon is an exception, he has a bit of Meadow heritage from his father hence why he's hecking large). Lumber is their biggest trade item, and are known as the "nerds" of the dragon world because they do a lot more reading/writing than the others do. This makes them desirable for working within the castle/government.
The Basalt Pits: These are the introverts of the dragon world. Where Stone Fields dragons are extroverts, these guys don't like company/visitors. They're the rivalling for largest dragons (on average) but also the fanciest of dragons. Known for having complex crests/crowns of horns, spikes, spines, etc. around their heads. Have really reflective/almost naturally sparkly scales. Have the best metal workers and create the best weapons/metal creations. Cranky, not very desirable for government roles because of their tempers. (Yes, this is what Aten is)
And that's our talk on Dragons! Any questions, compliments, or just ideas you've had after reading this? Please don't shy away from asking!

What would the McCoskers have done if Spider had figured it out earlier and would their reaction have been different if he was say ages 7 or 12 or 16? 😌
I do think there would be some difference according to his age but also according to the 'reason' he had worked it out.
In Custody's case, Spider doesn't necessarily have proof, but he does have a theory that makes perfect sense, where everything fits together (and it doesn't seem like there's any other alternative where everything would make sense). It's their reactions which seal the deal, because they're already in a pretty frantic state and been anxious that this will happen for the past week. I don't want to spoil for the final chapter, but we can probably agree they're not going to be able to convince him to take the theory/conclusion off the table at this point.
However, if he'd worked it out pre-Custody, whether at 7, 12 or 16, it seems like he'd have less info to work on and therefore would be on a shakier ground. I could see the McCoskers challenging him, acting like he's gone mad, essentially asking for proof of his claims, trying to talk him down. And depending on Spider's age/desperation for them not to abandon him, he may well have been convinced that he was being ridiculous. He'd be most vulnerable to this when younger, but the exception may be at age 7, because it's all just happened and he may think if someone else is guilty, he'll get his dad back and just fixate on that.
If they can't convince him otherwise, Spider knows and will almost definitely tell. The McCoskers' options at this point are 1. threaten him not to tell (this could work, but might be hard to pull off, I could see them strongly considering this route, but they're not going to feel very secure) 2. bribe him not to tell (this wouldn't work on him, and I think they'd know that.) 3. lock him up permanently (they'd have to move state, if not country to avoid authorities being alerted, there would be a high risk of him getting help during this period, they'd also have to find another location to continue their work.) 4. Kill him (it might put suspicion on them for both deaths, they would be worried about hiring someone again and likely not comfortable doing it themselves, the guilt would be pretty tough.)
Given all that, I think they'd try for the threatening aspect, they'd get his phone tapped, maybe hire a private detective to trail him to see if he looks like he's going to tell on them or not, and possibly try to call in help on the basis of their importance to the government in their field to get a move, maybe somewhere remote where Spider can have a handler who will be basically a prison guard and they can get on with their work. But if they thought they couldn't pull it off and Spider was going to ruin them/get them imprisoned they might be looking at another hitman and just hoping for the best. A lot would come down to how Spider was acting (is he scared of them or is he furious) and how small he is (smaller = easier to contain) so they can figure out how much cooperation they'd have from him.
(And a quick postscript to say - he could have figured it out and not told them he figured it out! That would be a different story - he might try contacting Q himself for starters. But the younger he is, the more likely he'd just blurt out - or if he was in a stressful context like he is in Custody) <3

Why slaves? Roman society had no equivalent of the educated but relatively poor urban classes who supplied Victorian entrepreneurs with their waged clerical assistants. The citizen army produced no retired officers with the kind of generalized administrative experience depended on today in many sectors of business and government. Nor did the freeborn have access to anything like the social and commercial institutions that today allow those with talent and energy to develop career paths to positions of increasing responsibility. Slaves, on the other hand, were malleable. Some were highly educated; indeed most Roman education took place within aristocratic households. Owned for long periods, they could be trained and disciplined to suit their masters’ needs. Most slaves were completely detached from the societies in which they had grown up, or else they were ‘home-bred’. Neither group had any real hope of achieving better conditions except with their owners’ support. Besides, slaves were utterly dependent on their masters. The sanctions for disobedience or dishonesty were horrifying. It was in principle illegal to kill a slave, deliberately at least, although who would bring a case against a master? But slaves might be routinely confined, beaten, even tortured, and there were many lesser sanctions. Cato recommended access to slave women be used as an incentive. Some slaves were allowed to start families, but their partners and children could be sold at a master’s whim. Slaves might hope for softer jobs and their eventual freedom, but they could be reassigned to hard labour if the master preferred. [...]
Cato’s ideal farm would have looked tiny to later generations. Purpose built villas with slave quarters appear in the last century BC, often equipped with luxurious residential quarters. A great mansion excavated at Settefinestre in Tuscany provides a vivid model. An entire urban mansion, secluded garden included, has been transplanted into the countryside and bolted onto a working farm. When the master was present, he would arrive with servile attendants to look after his every need and desire. Meanwhile, a very different category of slaves worked his vineyards, his fields, his mills, and his potteries. Most agricultural slaves were not made to work in chains—hardly practical in most circumstances—but many were branded or wore collars. Even worse were the conditions of the slaves who worked in the mines. And Apuleius, in his novel the Golden Ass, provides a horrific description of a grain mill where slaves ground grain by turning a horizontally mounted wheel in unbearable heat.
O gods above, what poor subhuman creatures were there, their bodies bruised all with livid marks, their backs scarred from beatings, covered rather than clothed, in rags, some just wearing loincloths to preserve their dignity, all of them so practically naked. Some had been branded on the forehead, some had their hair shaved off and some wore shackles. They looked ghastly, and in fact they could hardly see as their eyes were dimmed with muck and smoke in the foul-smelling darkness of that place.
Rome: An Empire's Story by Greg Woolf
To start thinking about Roman slavery is to stare into an infinite abyss of deliberate human suffering. The Roman Empire is considered to be one of the genuine slave states in human history, in that, like the antebellum Southern states of America, it could not exist without slavery. Slavery was the social and economic foundation upon which the entire Roman Empire rested. But while the slave states of Louisiana and Virginia lasted 150 years before abolition, the Roman Empire stood on the backs of unimaginable numbers of enslaved men, women and children for almost a thousand years. A thousand years is thirty-four generations of people enslaved to the Romans. A thousand years before the year I wrote this, King Cnut was glaring down the sea. A thousand years is an immense amount of time. And they didn’t just have domestic slaves, they had vast mines across the Empire for silver, lead, gold, iron and copper. Google the Las Médulas mines in Spain and imagine the sixty thousand enslaved people who worked there twenty-four hours a day to produce the gold the Roman Empire demanded, and then multiply that by hundreds of years and hundreds of sites and all those lives that were sent to toil for nothing and join me staring into this bottomless pit of Roman horror. Then picture the near infinite acres of land owned by the Gaius Caecilius Isidoruses and Melanias of the Roman world, each maintained by chain gangs of hundreds of enslaved people. And on top of that were those enslaved in the house, the cooks and cleaners and washers and dressers, the people enslaved by the state who maintained the aqueducts and laid the roads and built all those temples and fora across the vast Empire and fought fires and carried the emperor in his litter. A general estimate (which means, of course, a total guess but a guess from someone I’d trust in a quantitative situation) is that there were between 4.8 and 8.4 million enslaved people in the Roman Empire at any time, with the city of Rome‘s population including anywhere from ten to twenty-five percent enslaved people. Millions and millions and millions of lives, each a person with a heart full of love and hate and envy and joy and aching knees and sore eyes and dreams and thoughts and desires and hopes, all of whom were owned by another person and subject to the most extraordinary violence every day.

WE KNOW WHO ONE ANOTHER ARE
If there's no such thing as good taste. A rounds creep inexorably downward. One reason it's easy to know how to design type systems may shudder at this. But software, as a rule, doesn't get redesigned enough. Pick good cofounders. If you want to buy a nice CD player, you'll probably grow, your price will go up, and you'll start to get it through to people. The reason the new model has advanced so rapidly is that it sucks for doing what hackers want to do something grand or heroic, but just to make money.
Since software patents are no different from hardware patents, people protected ideas by keeping them secret. It's hard for us now to understand what they do: you call a function on the macro's arguments, and whatever it returns gets inserted in place of the macro call. This pattern is no coincidence: it is the people. The same thing could happen with the Internet. Everyone buys this story that PG started YC and his wife just kind of helped. Things always seem intangible when you don't understand them. Countries worried about their competitiveness are right to be concerned about the number of sufficiently good founders starting companies, and that often means seeing something the big company doesn't want to work that hard. But now comes the hard part. As in science, the hard part. It's very dangerous to morale to start to depend on deals closing, not just as a landmark in the history of technology would want to underestimate the power of large organizations peaked in the late twentieth century something changed. If nuclear winter really is here, it may be more than new. In young hackers, optimism predominates.
I don't think there was a change in the social conventions and perhaps the laws governing the way big companies worked. Well, not quite. The libraries all work well together; everything in the language fits together like the parts in a fine camera. In America you can have either a flimsy box banged together out of two by fours and drywall, or a McMansion—a flimsy box banged together out of two by fours and drywall, but larger, more dramatic-looking, and full of good examples to learn from, and the latter because the whole social thing was tapped out. Wufoo seem to have rooted themselves in Tampa on $118k, but they're an extreme case. But as the tests get broader, the schools do too. The other big driver of change is that startups are often involved in disreputable things. Over the last decade we've seen the percentage of the company sold in series A rounds for as much equity as founders want to sell and with no option pool that comes only from the founders' shares stands to reap huge benefits.
He was like nothing else I'd seen. I don't think there was a change in the social conventions and perhaps the laws governing the way big companies worked. Part of the reason—possibly the main reason—that startups have not spread as broadly as the Industrial Revolution? Running a startup is to focus on one to the exclusion of the rest. In other fields, companies regularly sue competitors for patent infringement till you have money, and once you have money, people will pay attention to you, because if they don't like what they're supposed to. It was striking how old fashioned this sounded. Hackers like to hack, we can spring on the world a stream of new startups that might otherwise not have existed. The median visitor will arrive with their finger poised on the Back button.
It has an interactive toplevel that starts up fast. That doesn't mean you can ignore the economy. Or rather, what used to be very valuable to YC. A market takes every organization and keeps just the good ones and the bad ones only becomes visible in the other half of their jobs: choosing and advising startups. I talk to the founders. The real reason we started Y Combinator. K & R is the ideal here. So all other things being equal, no one will sue you for patent infringement. More precisely, the trick is to realize that there's no real contradiction here. The classic yuppie worked for a small organization. It's hard for them to flourish in societies ruled by people who stole at will from the merchant class.
Of course it matters to do a good job. And in any case, competitors are not the biggest threat. Many of the interesting applications written in other languages. They were actually right. Don't say anything unless you're fairly sure of it. Every couple days I slip and call it Viaweb. This is especially true of a highly articulated tool like a programming language to have, say, to make your software compatible with some other piece of software—in fact, he was.

Rife with scandals and dirty family secrets, the Harding family is no different than any other political family in the world. They were the last founding family to have settled in the area, way back in 1874, and have since had a hand in the government of Treasure. Up until Damien Walker took over, the Hardings had been the longest line of mayors the city had ever seen. Alas, nepotism at its finest, right? But now the city is notched firmly under The Greeks thumbs and the Harding family is taking the brunt of the effects.
In addition to their effortless attempts to take back their rightful spot in the mayor's office, the Hardings are also responsible for most of the city's development, and they work closely with the Daniels family to help bring visions of the future for Treasure to life. If they ever expect to take back a piece of the city, they'll have to work together and we all know that none of the Harding children play well with others.
--- HARDING | 33 | FEMALE FACE CLAIM
So, here's the thing, First enjoys politics, especially a good conversation here and there but the corrupt city of Treasure is an entirely different story when it comes to running for the local office. Votes are bought here, not won over by public opinion and, well, First knows she could never really get behind that. But she plays along, if only for the sake of her father and to make sure she's not written out of the will once the time comes. She's a walking facade, most people would say, adapting to her surroundings but never quite showing the real person underneath.
--- HARDING | 30 | MALE FACE CLAIM
Though the middle child, First Harding was the first to take up the mantle in the family business, running for city office and securing his position as the Head of the City Council. His plans to overthrow Damien Walker and take his rightful place in the mayor's office have proved futile more than once over the past few years as he tries to set things up for the future, but the man will never stop trying, intent on taking the city back once and for all.
--- HARDING | 26 | FEMALE FACE CLAIM
The youngest Harding child, First, is the manipulative one of the bunch. Suited up with their sharp tongue and quick wit, First is exactly the kind of person you would want playing the field. While she doesn't really have an interest in pursuing a political career, she is more than happy on the sidelines, aiding in her older siblings' dreams to ensure that the Harding name will never lose the kind of reputation it has now.
--- HARDING | 28 | OPEN GENDER
At age 10, First Harding was adopted by Taylor and Hope and was quickly indicted into all sorts of family affairs, including dinners, parties, and other displays that had everything to do with reputation and nothing to do with stable morality. It was due to this that First grew up to despise their lifestyle. The gossiping and the too stuffy outfits and the people that judged like it was nobody's business. Safe to say they didn't follow in their family's footsteps.
--- HARDING | 25 | OPEN GENDER
First Harding was adopted second to their sibling, at age 6, and adjusted much more easily to a life of painted smiles and mingling. Though with no interest in politics, First is happy to play the part of a doting child, content on being a socialite and playing cards with their peers. They love to gamble and party and are known to partake in other kinds of recreational activities too.
--- QUINN | 30 | OPEN GENDER
Born to Daniel Quinn and Anna Harding, First doesn't necessarily have a lot of sway over public opinion like their cousins do. But they have a charming smile and a knack for getting people to like them, making it pretty easy to fit people in their pocket should the time come they need to use them. They may stray away from actively supporting criminals but they know what needs to be done in order to be on top, simply depending on whether or not they're willing to do something they know they wouldn't be proud of.

I'm German and let me tell you, this is literally a systematic failure of your government.
My childhood sucked, not gonna lie (irrelevant to this post), but we had a skatepark and a playground just around the corner in our village. People got drunk at the age of 14, sometimes younger (and yes, that's technically legal here when you have your parents' approval). I was offered my first cigarette when I was 12 by a 10 y/o (I refused).
School grew to be more the older I got and I had lots of extra curricular due to musical training (which I gave up), but there were other activities kids could go to for fun, like soccer, tennis etc, you get the picture.
And all this is possible because our government put protection on our youth. Parents get "Kindergeld" for having a child, ergo they get financial help for raising a kid. The kid's aren't allowed to work until the age of at least 14 or 16 or smth and even then there is heavy regulations of how much they are allowed to do.
School is basically free, unless you go to university which costs around 200- 400€ per semester, depending on what you study. (Private Unis may ask for that in a month) Getting in is hard, but it depends on whether there is a restriction due to grades and even then (except for medicine) you have a wait list where your NC (equivalent to GPA) slowly increases in worth. We have Bafög, which is financial help for ALL students (well there is a lot of exceptions but those mean you don't need the money anyway.)
We have free healthcare and "Bürgergeld", in case you can't get a job. We have paid vacation and sick days are free. All of them. You can be sick for half a year and still get paid, if you're sick for longer, the money comes from a different source. But YOU still get paid.
Alcoholism is basically a national culture thing, so when you have a special Birthday like your 18th (our legal age to buy ALL kinds of alcoholic beverages/cigarettes etc. (Some can be bought when you're younger), it's practically expected that you skip the next day due to a Hangover. People will joke about it, but you're technically allowed to do this.
I myself am very boring, so I don't have many stories to tell. I don't go to parties and stuff, if I can help it and I don't enjoy overdoing alcohol. But I have siblings, so I can tell you about the couch we burned or the one I skinned, I can tell you about my 16th were someone fell asleep on the Mercedes star that had broken off my dad's car. I can tell you about the night when we watched the star shower at the local playground and I was confessed to for the first time (well ... Kinda.). I can tell you the dozens of stories my brother told me about his friends driving over fields with old cars or how they drove through a mcdrive with their mopeds. I can tell you about the one time at the printing factory I used to work aty where I hid in a Container to prank my coworker, or the time one of my brothers' friends picked me up at 3 am to speed 200km/h over the autobahn.
I can tell you these things because my childhood was protected. I suffered where it failed, but where it succeeded, I strived. And I can still be childish during work, or at uni, or anywhere because being professional at all times makes you a machine. Having to work as much as you explained makes you a slave.
Your government failed you. It's as simple as that.
We, my country, already has a lot of issues with these things because we don't believe we have ENOUGH laws, or believe they aren't efficient enough.
You guys should riot.
Maybe this is the wrong platform to pose this question given the average tumblr user but
Is it just me or did our generation (those of is who are currently 20-30 ish) just not get the opportunity to be young in the 'standard' sense?
Like, everyone I talk to who's over 40 has all their wild stories about their teens and 20s, being young and dumb, and then I talk to my friends and coworkers and classmates, and we just... dont.

The Evolution of the Modern CEO | Nav Sooch
One such captain of industry is Nav Sooch, who is a testament to the transformative power of innovative leadership. His story is an inspiring example of how vision, resilience, and adaptability can lead to significant advancements in technology and business. From co-founding Silicon Labs and leading as CEO to guiding the trajectory of Ketra, Inc., Sooch's impact on the field of solid state lighting and tech industry is substantial. With his extensive background in Electrical Engineering and a dynamic leadership style, he embodies the modern executive role in the corporate world.
At the dawn of the 20th century, the industrial landscape was vastly different from what we see today. Companies were predominantly hierarchical, with a single dominant figure at the helm, usually the founder. These men, often visionaries and entrepreneurs, were seen as captains of industry, the architects of prosperity for both their businesses and the nation. Their leadership style was typically autocratic, as they held the reins of power firmly in their hands.
However, as the industrial revolution progressed, the scale of businesses expanded exponentially. The growth of large corporations, in turn, necessitated a shift in leadership styles. The modern captain of industry gradually emerged as a leader who needed to balance the pursuit of profit with an understanding of the broader societal context.
However, in the face of intensifying competition and rapid technological advancements in the 21st century, leaders like Nav Sooch have had to adapt their strategies and leadership styles. They've embraced innovation and leveraged technology to maintain their competitive edge. Rather than consolidating power through acquisitions, these modern captains of industry focus on developing unique products and solutions that offer value to their customers, thus driving the growth of their companies in a sustainable way.
During this era, the modern captain of industry began to wear multiple hats. They not only managed their companies but also navigated complex political landscapes. They became influential figures who could shape public policy and global events. Their roles expanded to encompass not only business acumen but also diplomacy and governance.
The mid-20th century brought new challenges and opportunities for these business leaders. The rise of information technology and globalization altered the corporate landscape, making it increasingly complex and interconnected. The modern captain of industry had to adapt to a world where information flowed at the speed of light and markets spanned the globe.
This period also saw the emergence of a new leadership philosophy. Leaders were expected to not only drive profits but also consider the impact of their actions on society and the environment. Ethical concerns and social responsibility became integral aspects of modern leadership.
A testament to this shift in leadership approach is Nav Sooch's focus on fostering an inclusive and positive work culture in his tech ventures. Recognizing that the success of a company is largely dependent on its workforce, he has prioritized employee engagement and well-being alongside innovation and growth. By creating an environment that encourages creative thinking and collaboration, Sooch has not only driven his companies to greater heights but also contributed to the development of a more progressive and inclusive tech industry.
This new landscape demanded a shift in leadership focus from control to influence. The modern captain of industry now needed to understand the intricacies of digital marketing, social media, and online reputation management. The ability to connect with customers on a personal level became a key factor in a leader's success. Nav Sooch Marriage
The rise of e-commerce and the gig economy added complexity to the modern leadership role. These leaders had to navigate the challenges of managing remote teams, leveraging technology to optimize operations, and adapting to an ever-changing business environment. The COVID-19 pandemic, in particular, forced leaders to rethink their business strategies and embrace remote work and digital transformation on an unprecedented scale.
Nav Sooch, like many CEOs of the contemporary era, has been a strong advocate for corporate social responsibility. He understands that a corporation's role extends beyond profit-generation to addressing critical societal issues. True to this modern leadership ethos, Sooch has ensured his businesses take an active role in contributing positively to society – whether it's through sustainable practices, equitable policies, or initiatives aimed at reducing the digital divide. This commitment to corporate responsibility, coupled with a steadfast focus on innovation and employee well-being, underscores Sooch's exemplary leadership in the evolving landscape of business and technology.
The modern captain of industry became a champion of corporate social responsibility, investing in sustainability, and actively engaging in philanthropy. It wasn't just about doing well in business; it was also about doing good for the world. This change in perspective reflected a broader shift in societal values, as consumers and employees alike began to demand more from the companies they supported and worked for.
In sum, Nav Sooch's journey exemplifies the evolution of the modern captain of industry. His story encapsulates the transformation of the role of the company leader from a figure of pure profit-driven power to a multi-faceted steward of corporate future, social responsibility, and organizational culture. More than ever, today's corporate leaders play a vital role in shaping not just their companies' trajectories, but also the society in which they operate. They serve as catalysts for change, innovators driving technological advancements, and advocates for a more equitable and sustainable future.
It's this blend of ambition, innovation, empathy, and responsibility that makes him a quintessential modern CEO, and it's the same blend that will continue to define effective leadership in the business world of the future.

YSEALI Seeds: Sekolah Adat Arus Kualan
Tumblr media
About the Project
Sekolah Adat Arus Kualan, or the Customary School Arus Kualan, is a project led by young Dayak leaders in West Kalimantan, Indonesia. They have taught 138 students so far, with the goal of creating a generation that values and protects the Dayak culture. The school emphasizes learning from traditional indigenous knowledge in various fields, such as environmental issues, social relations, art, and literature.
The school has two main areas of focus: education and environment. In education, students learn about traditional knowledge, such as dance, traditional food and medicinal plants, music, and modern technology. In environment, students participate in activities like tree planting and using organic eco-polybags.
Tumblr media
Why do you care about this specific topic/issue?
As a Dayak generation, we are committed to preserving the culture and local wisdom that our ancestors passed down to us. We want to keep them alive in the modern era. The future of the Dayak people depends on the youth.
Why did you decide to start this project?
We are concerned about the growing loss of cultural and local knowledge in Simpang Hulu and Simpang Dua Sub-Districts, Ketapang District, West Kalimantan, Indonesia, especially among the Dayak youth.
Tumblr media
What are your goals for this project?
Increased participation of youth in Simpang Hulu and Simpang Dua Sub-Districts to be aware of the local wisdom of Dayak Simpang and the environment.
Plant 1000 trees for the future
Bring awareness to the local government about the local wisdom of the indigenous people in the region.
Enable the Dayak indigenous youth to use technology as a tool to preserve and record the story of their community, their culture, and tradition through film, paper, and photography.
Increase the interest of the younger generation to pass on traditional knowledge (music, dance, stories, weaving, painting, foraging, and traditional values).
How will YSEALI Seeds help you achieve your goals?
The funding assistance from YSEALI was crucial for us to acquire the necessary equipment for our project in the field. YSEALI also guided us on how to execute the project in a structured manner, and monitored our progress and outcomes. This was very helpful because we often faced administrative challenges when running the project.
Tumblr media
What have you accomplished and implement so far?
We started the project in 2014. Since then, 138 students have joined our class. We received support from the community, parents and the Dayak elders. On the other hand, we conducted traditional weaving, music and dancing classes. We also brought the kids with the elders to learn about the traditional knowledge (stories, plants in the forest that can be used for food, medicine and spice). We encouraged the indigenous youth to make films and we produced some documentary films.
What are the most significant lessons learned you’ve experienced so far?
To ensure the success of our project, we need to involve many people and work as a team. We will face many challenges along the way, and we cannot overcome them if we work alone.
It is also essential to monitor the project use a well-organized administration system, so that we can track the progress and make adjustments as needed.
Tumblr media
What are the success stories you can share with others who would like to do the same type of activity and/or project like yours?
Our students collaborated with the Royal College of Art London to conduct research on the plants in the forest. They went to the forest with the elders and recorded all the plants and their functions.
Sekolah Adat Arus Kualan was featured in an international journal.
The program has been established in four different places with a total of 138 students (both children and youth).

From Wheat to Oil: A Closer Look at Forecasting for Major Commodities
Tumblr media
An important part of the world economy is played by the commodity markets. Commodity prices, including those for wheat, oil, sugar, soybeans, and cocoa, are affected by several variables, including supply and demand, geopolitical, climatic conditions, and more. Commodity price forecasting can be a difficult endeavor. Yet, thanks to developments in data analytics and technology, market participants may now make more educated trading and investment decisions. One such platform, Pricevision helps traders foresee and make informed decisions by offering data-driven insights for commodities markets.
In order to produce reliable predictions about the future prices of commodities, Pricevision.ai employs a range of sophisticated commodity price forecasting methods, including statistical modeling, machine learning algorithms, and other data-driven techniques.
Recently, ai technology has been used for a variety of supply chain applications, from supplier risk management to commodity price forecasting analysis. A similar process is presently used to forecast commodity prices.
In the right situation, this can provide crucial insights. To improve forecast accuracy and hasten decision-making in close to real-time, AI enables us to study larger, more complicated sets of data over a longer period. Commodity buyers are lagging while traders and producers are spending heavily on this technology.
The technical justification for using AI for commodity Price forecasting
The artificial intelligence (AI) field is rapidly expanding because of the enormous amount of research being done in this area. Major AI research initiatives are funded by the biggest corporations, organizations, academic institutions, and governments in the world.
To create models that predict commodity prices with the least amount of human input, organized and unstructured data are often broken down methodically using language processing & machine learning.
As a result, information that would not often be readily apparent to anyone may be prominently displayed, enabling producers to plan their output, traders to predict prices, and purchasers to make more strategic purchasing decisions.
NLP technology has benefits for users, such as reducing the need for manual processes. It reduces the possibility of human error by capturing the data that a user would typically enter a transactional capture system. By compiling user-made contractual commitments throughout the day and preserving them as a form of proof for compliance requirements, this program also lowers operational risk.
Nevertheless, machine learning also includes algorithms that can be trained over time to think and act like people to improve predictions. With a "supervised learning" approach, experts who trained the models may ensure that they're constantly developing when these techniques are exposed to fresh sources.
How Pricevision’s approach to forecasting works for some of the major commodities
Wheat
A crucial staple crop, wheat ranks among the most extensively used grains in the world. Weather, production rates, and consumption habits are just a few of the variables that affect wheat prices. To anticipate the cost of wheat based on these variables, Pricevision’s platform uses a combination of data analysis and algorithms based on machine learning.
It also studies news stories and market trends to quickly modify its prediction for wheat prices. For instance, the platform can immediately alter its projection to take into consideration the possible effect on sales should there be a drought in a significant region that produces wheat.
Oil
One of the most widely traded commodities on the world market, oil is influenced by a variety of factors, including geopolitical events, supply levels, and different sales. The platform Pricevision.ai forecasts the price of oil depending on these variables using commodity price forecasting models & algorithms for machine learning.
To produce more accurate predictions about the price of crude oil, that help in crude oil procurement. Pricevision.ai also makes use of artificial intelligence to monitor market sentiment and news events. As a result, the platform is better able to anticipate market shifts that can affect oil prices.
Sugar
The price of sugar, a commodity utilized extensively in the industry of food and beverages, is affected by some variables, including production levels, worldwide weather systems, and geopolitical issues. Based on these inputs, Pricevision's platform forecasts the price of sugar using the statistical package and machine learning algorithms.
To modify its prediction for sugar prices, the platform also examines news stories about the market for sugar, such as legislative changes or fluctuations in demand from significant customers. This enables investors as well as traders to anticipate market shifts that might impact the cost of sugar.
Soybean
A crop called soybean is used for food, animal feed, and biofuels, among other things. Weather patterns, production levels, supply and demand, and others all have an impact on soybean prices. The platform Pricevision uses machine learning and statistical analysis to predict the price of soybeans based on these data.
To modify its forecast for soybeans prices, Pricevision.ai also employs big data and machine intelligence to examine news stories about the soybean industry, such as modifications to governmental regulations or delays in shipping. This makes it easier for traders and investors to anticipate market developments that might affect soybeans price.
Cocoa
The price of cocoa, a commodity used extensively in the chocolate business, is affected by several variables, including weather patterns, production rates, and different sales. AI platform forecasts the price of cocoa depending on these inputs by using the statistical package and machine learning techniques.
To modify its prediction for cocoa prices, Pricevision also studies news stories about the market for cocoa, such as legislative changes or fluctuations in demand from significant buyers.
Conclusion
It is a difficult procedure that calls for a thorough knowledge of market fundamentals and the capacity to examine a wide variety of data inputs to forecast the commodity prices like wheat and oil. Market participants can use data-driven insights from platforms like Pricevision.ai to assist them to make better trading and investing decisions.
Pricevision.ai is a leading platform for commodity price forecasting methods, utilizing sophisticated statistical analysis, machine learning algorithms, and other data-driven techniques to provide accurate insights into the future prices of various commodities.
Pricevision’s platform can forecast the cost of goods like wheat and oil more precisely by utilizing sophisticated statistical analysis, algorithms for machine learning, and big data. This improves outcomes for everybody involved in the commodities markets by enabling investors as well as traders to keep up with market trends & make more educated choices.

------@toonsupe gifted: Mr. Edgar stresses that he’s to know this one well — something Noir takes note of the first time, then weighs on his shoulders the second and third time when in the throes of combat he forgets who is and isn’t his target. Unlike him! He isn’t sloppy, so the fourth time they meet he takes this number-man between his hands and runs his fingers along his cheeks and chin, feels the groove under his eyebrows and the length and curve of his nose. His touch is gentle, too gentle, held back in a way like he might shatter the ground with a finger if he isn’t too careful. To his eye there is nothing different, but the world of touch — what his gloves think he feels — opens something more familiar. He takes note of a scar or two, and the way that his nose sits on his face; he can’t forget! If he stabs the wrong person, he’ll be made humiliated again. The deep glare of his mask shadows his thoughts.
Tumblr media
------IN A WORLD where genetically superior beings existed it really was difficult to be stand out in any fashion. this worked favorably for six, where training dictated that being on any radar for an extended period of time was not anything that would work toward success. in any other instance being one of the deadliest government operators in the world was something that earned him credibility - whether it made others want to snuff out his life or aspire to be more like him depended entirely on the outlook. six didn't care, either way.
and he'd never really been a fan of the supes.
it was neutral ground, something where he understood that even he with his skills could not match up to someone with heat-vision or strength that easily surpassed his with all of the training and honing under his belt. he was comfortable enough in his person to accept it. that didn't mean he thought it was fair when the playing fields were introduced.
he'd heard rumblings of the temp v even before the scandal with vought went public. the story was a roller coaster and now one six cared to keep track of unless work dictated it. of course the government had their fingers in that cherry pie, and of course denny carmichael was the kind of scumbag to request a sierra operative get him a slice.
denny carmichael was a scumbag. it was no wonder he got along with stan edgar.
six was quick to shoot down the danced-around idea of being one of the very soldiers that they were synthesizing the product for. no amount of compliments or proverbial tonguing his asshole would get him ready for that particular hurdle. he'd worked hard to be as super as he was comfortable with, and his achievements were not shortcomings. supes aside.
however, in his own quiet opinions about the soldier boys of the world (oh, his father never shut the fuck up about that creature when six was a kid) he'd found his own interest in one or two. aside from personal interest in queen maeve (and no, he would not elaborate) six had always found the methods of black noir familiar and relatable.
of course, he'd also had access to sealed documents that covered the parts the media and vought alike refused to detail on the missions where noir was dispatched. the man was a machine when put to work and the viscera he'd left behind was terrifying.
to someone who wasn't a sierra agent.
and six did not have access to the more morally ambiguous missions noir might have been dispatched to.
point was - he found some strange kinship in the overbearing silence that noir exuded. the mystery. the skill. six liked him.
and six knew better than to move when someone as deadly and pointed as black noir approached with hands extended. still, he tensed in the way that someone like them would when faced with such an unnatural convention as this. fingers prodded at his cheeks, his nose, the shape of his closed mouth. the stillness, aside from noir's shifting fingers and careful movements, was something that an outsider might consider as standoffish or perhaps awkward.
in some sense of it, almost immediately, six understood what noir was doing. either way, he wasn't going to question it.
he didn't blink, either. eyes remained on the reflective part of noir's mask where he knew the other was looking as much as he was associating to familiarity. it was pretty easy to make unflinching eye contact with himself, but even if he could see the face beneath the mask he'd have just stared.
whatever it took to forge an alliance, considering they'd be working together again quite soon.
this was not the weirdest thing to happen to sierra six.

What would Danny do for work?
I have a quick question to my fellow Danny Phantom fans... When you imagine Danny picking a career/job, what do you headcanon for him? And this is if he can't- for whatever reason- be an astronaut. This is a hypothetical question, it's not- like, going to affect any of my stories in the future or anything *chuckles nervously*
For me, it's always depended on the headcanon I choose for any particular story/AU. But that gets complicated when I have multiple headcanons that could offer opportunities for him.
For example:
Astrophysicist/Aerospace Engineer - He can't be an astronaut, but that doesn't mean he can't still do some kind of work that involves his love for space.
Engineer - In a similar vein, he could be a regular engineer. Especially if he takes after his dad, Jack, more and maybe even creates his own prototypes and inventions.
In a subset to engineer, in my story weekend wonders, Danny is majoring in biomedical engineering. This is because in this AU, the accident gave him chronic pain, and that's how he gained an interest in this field. This could also work great if he gets attention from the Justice League in a DP x DC crossover, or the Avengers in a DP x Marvel crossover; Danny could just as easily work with heroes who have disabilities or chronic pain from many decades of work as heroes. It helps that he personal experience with the same struggles, after all.
Translator - If you headcanon that Danny can understand a lot of languages (or maybe even them all) due to ghost speak, then Danny could totally use this to his advantage with work. Plus!! This offers many different avenues that could be used to your advantage. Want Danny to be connected to the UN in some way before debuting as Ghost King? Have him be a translator that works there. Want Danny to be busy often with his royal responsibilities/ghost fighting? Have him be a translator; he can work remotely or stay self-employed/on contracts.
Teacher - Danny doesn't have great experience with educational staff, so I could imagine him going into this field of work due to nothing but spite. And! He could teach ectobiology, or just ghosts in general. He could do so many topics: Biology, government, history, hell he could do a whole semester on how physics work in the Ghost Zone.
Blacksmith/Ironsmith - Okay, this one is more self-indulgent, but imagine if Pandora teaches him how to fight with a sword and then he gets obsessed with the sword itself that he wants to make one that's perfectly suited for him and this just dominos into going full-blown into this field. (Trade skills are still important, and sadly, don't get as much attention even when they can usually offer fairly decent pay without the thousands of dollars worth in student debt.)
Writer/Author - If you wanted him to be more artistic, he could be a freelance author/novelist or something similar. I feel like being an author would be one of the better choices for him because, again, if you were writing a story where Danny would be busy with a lot of other responsibilities, then he could largely work on his own schedule. Plus! I can totally imagine him hanging out in Long Now with Clockwork when his head is just full of ideas for a story but he wouldn't have the time to write it otherwise. So he kind of uses Long Now to get that time, but he can promise it's for a good cause, stop laughing, Clockwork!
Actor - I really love the concept of Danny being an actor, just for the laughs if nothing else. While this could be a pain if Danny does actually get famous, since that's a lot of media he would probably prefer not to deal with, the concept alone offers a great deal of shenanigans. And... if he does get a good movie deal, he could very well be set for life afterwards. He could be one of those one-hit wonders in television or something.
If anyone has other possibilities, feel free to add! My head is constantly spinning with even more ideas, I might just add some myself.

Mars Sign: Causes
What sign and the placement of your Mars Sign can indicate what causes you may fight for or feel passionate about.
Mars in Aries will likely fight in the most direct of ways - verbally arguing or standing up for someone, by leading a strike, protest, or revolution, joining the military, or with their fists. Aries tends to fight for themselves or for their values. Likely to value things like freedom, self-expression, and ability to fight for one’s self or go after success. May also be a sucker for the underdog or anyone who shares the same spirit as them.
Mars in Taurus will fight by resisting and standing their ground. Taurus might also fight with their wallet or property, supporting businesses or content they believe in. They tend to fight for wants, comfort, or survival. What stirs up their defenses or passion to fight back is when what they own or what they believed they are owed is threatened. While this may sound entitled this can come from a place of fighting for your worth or fighting for what really is YOURS. They can sympathize or help others fight who find what they own, what they hold onto metaphorically or literally is being threatened.
Mars in Gemini will fight with words! 🗣 A debater, arguer, yeller, persuader, lawyer. What gets them in the mood to fight? A lot. Mars in Gemini is not a sensitive position but they are coming from an intellectual place and with a mind ready to learn but also decide and act. With every new piece of information can their temper rage or subside. It is the meaning behind something that angers them.
